A Venting Index (VI) is a daily forecast indicating the atmosphere's ability to disperse smoke and pollutants, crucial for controlling open burning, especially in areas like British Columbia. It combines atmospheric mixing height (how high smoke rises) and wind speed, rating conditions as Good, Fair, or Poor; burning anything other than a campfire in the Highlands is restricted to "Good" days only (55-100) to prevent smoke from trapping and causing health issues
